New vessel makes maiden voyage to Durban terminals

OCEAN Network Express’ newest vessel made its maiden voyage to Durban’s Container Terminal (DCT) Pier 2, carrying an exchange of import and export containers, including refrigerated citrus containers.

Ocean Network Express’ (ONE) Recommendation vessel is part of the company’s new reduced carbon emission fleet. Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) says that the terminal deployed adequate resources to efficiently service the four-month-old vessel without interruption and within the stipulated window. Earlier this year, DCT Pier 1 successfully handled sister vessels ONE Readiness and ONE Reassurance on their maiden voyages to South Africa.

The voyage is a boost to Transnet’s recovery objectives. TPT says the plan’s primary focus is the recovery of volumes from key operations and operating divisions across the organisation.

Durban Terminals managing executive, Earle Peters said, “The confidence ONE continues to demonstrate in our business is encouraging and speaks to the strength of the partnership we have cemented over time”. He added that the terminal boasted dedicated employees who continued to work around the clock to ensure the terminal was always open for business.

After leaving Singapore, vessel ONE Recommendation visited three other destinations to load before heading to South Africa. It left Durban to return to Singapore. “While we are in recovery as a business overall, we are in essence serving, and every opportunity like this gives DCT Pier 2 the boost it requires to make our customers globally competitive,” said Peters.
