New platform for managing and controlling low voltage loads

Home Engineering Automation & Control New platform for managing and controlling low voltage loads

RS Components has added TeSys island from Schneider Electric to its portfolio, saying that this object-oriented digital load management solution has “huge potential” in a modern industrial automation context.

“It can deal with motors and other electrical loads (such as pumps, relays, programmable logic controllers, conveyors) up to an 80A rating,” the company said in a statement.

“Through its unique object-oriented approach with an array of 30 different predetermined application-specific functions that may be utilised, this platform provides a straightforward method for implementing and configuring complex industrial systems.”

This, it added, enables engineers to effectively offload much of the effort involved in the defining and commissioning of each constituent electro-mechanical component within the system. “This makes the hardware installation phase much quicker and easier to complete – thereby reducing the associated costs, as well as shortening the time before systems can be put into action.”

Through TeSys island, supervisors of industrial systems can gain access to key diagnostic data. “This ensures that maximum operational performance is always upheld, in addition to helping with preventive maintenance and fault identification.”

The island is compatible with all the main automation fieldbus IOs – including Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, and PROFIBUS. The platform can be integrated with Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Machine Expert, plus Rockwell Automation’s Studio 5000 and Siemens’ TIA portal and other proprietary third-party automation systems.

“To further support automation engineers using the TeSys island platform, RS has also launched its own dedicated online configuration tool. It is possible, through this, to assign the correct variable speed drives and direct/soft starters to meet specific application requirements,” the company said.
