CEMENT and Concrete SA (CCSA) is now calling for nominations for the prestigious 2022 Fulton Awards, the South African construction, civil engineering and architectural industries’ premier accolades for excellence in concrete.
Hanlie Turner, Business Development Manager of CCSA, said the awards function was scheduled for this year but had to be postponed because of pandemic lockdowns and will now be presented as, hopefully, a live event in mid-2022. Projects already nominated before the postponement will remain in contention and the closing date for new submissions is August 31 this year.
The awards have been presented every two years by the Concrete Society of Southern Africa since 1979 as a tribute to the late Dr Sandy Fulton, former director of the Portland Cement Institute.
“With CCSA now the unified body of the SA cement and concrete industry, the awards have been taken over by CCSA as the Fulton Awards’ legacy and the recognition they offer to projects displaying excellence in concrete must be preserved,” Turner said.
“The awards – given to the entire team responsible for producing the structure, or creating the development, including the owner/developer and all associated professionals – have always substantially elevated the status of all concerned.”
She said past awards were won by local projects that from design, innovation and execution parameters, are world-class structures, and worthy of competing with the best around the globe.
“In fact, as an international partner of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), CCSA may now nominate Fulton Award winners for the ACI’s Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards 2022, in line with the American awards’ project categories, and eligibility criteria. Success in this major competition will add invaluable international acclaim to any project team.”
The categories for the 2022 Fulton Awards are: Buildings up to R50m in value; Buildings of over R50m; Infrastructure of up to R100m; Infrastructure of over R100m; and Innovation and invention in concrete.
The adjudication panel for the 2022 awards will be Bryan Perrie, CEO of CCSA; Stephen Humphries, Director of Nyeleti Consulting; and Daniel van der Merwe, of LEAF Architects.
