Elastomeric polymer alloy pump bearings

HIGH performance bearings with exceptional wear life, low friction, reduced starting torque and dry start-up capability. That’s how Thordon Bearings Inc. describes its elastomeric polymer alloy pump bearings.

The company is a leading global manufacturer of non-metallic bearings that require no oil or grease. “Thordon bearings are built to last, with no impact to the environment. They are easy to design, can be safely machined and quickly installed,” the company said in a statement.

“Our vertical pump bearings provide long wear life, high abrasion resistance, especially with our Composite material, while our SXL bearings offer exceptional performance in applications that require a dry start up.”

According to the company, its polymer bearings can be used in aerators, flocculators, screens, butterfly valves and is a direct replacement for greased bronze bearings in rotating equipment applications when the user wants to eliminate grease before it turns into a grinding paste.

Applications include power plants, sewage and wastewater treatment plants, refineries, mines, and especially anyone operating vertical turbine pumps.

“ThorPlas-White is an engineered thermoplastic developed specifically to operate as a drinking water system component in pumps and valves. It is certified for Food Equipment Applications (NSF/ANSI 51), Drinking and Potable Water Applications (NSF/ANSI 61) and holds WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) material approval. Based on these standards, it is an accepted material approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“Our engineered, off the shelf and customizable bearing solutions can improve efficiency by saving time and money by eliminating grease, lowering life cycle costs, decreasing equipment downtime and increasing mean time between failure (MTBF),” the company said.
