Planning for disruption: Energy solutions for manufacturers

South Africa has been battling a highly disruptive energy crisis for almost a decade and solutions for the pressing energy crisis have been slow and mired in red tape.

The unstable electricity supply has led to lost production and increased costs and has left businesses unable to plan, invest and grow.

Preventing a total power collapse and rapidly transitioning to cleaner energy sources as climate change intensifies are among numerous challenges facing the energy industry.

Load-shedding is a way of life for many Sub-Saharan African countries. Can South African manufacturers anticipate that unpredictable power outages will continue into the future or will energy reform and policy initiatives pick up pace to relieve the persistent and damaging energy shortages?

To answer these questions, the Toyota Wessels Institute for Manufacturing Studies, together with leading energy analysts Chris Yelland of EE Business Intelligence, will host a panel discussion on Energy Solutions for Manufacturers on 27 May.

Attendance is free of charge and you can join the discussion online or in-person at the institute’s campus in Kloof, Durban.
